Machine Work
« on: January 25, 2019, 04:28:21 PM »
Has anyone ever had any machine work done in town? Things like porting heads or decking heads, engine honing or boring etc.?

Yes but not recently, not sure who is even doing engine machine work.

Wouldnít recommend head porting locally or pretty much at all.  If you need to port match it would probably be cheaper to invest in a die grinder.  Same with honing or deglazing, Iíd probabaly just buy a good hone.

I have made an inquiry for you on where to go.

I have used Pauls Engines and Cylinder head back in the day. I still believe Jim Mcnabb does engine work in his garage. He is known for excellent but I'm not sure if he "retired" from doing it.

Beatty and Woods has an excellent reputation and has been in business since 1969. They did an excellent job on my 3V Monster Build. Donít know of anyone in town that does it anymore.

Thanks for the replies, I was just curious if there was anyone around. I wonder if Sudbury has anyone reputable

Shipping things in and out of town is beyond my means at this time.

I am just trying to decide on how far I want to tear down the 4.2 and if I want to consider doing forged stuff at some point.

Right now I think I might just leave the bottom end alone as long as it all looks good, maybe just a hone and new rings. New head gaskets etc. I have a spare lower intake that attempting some port matching and see what I think of my results before attempting on any of the needed parts.

There are some other companies out there that port heads specifically for the 3.8 that offer a core charge exchange as well that I could look into.
